Oven Cleaning Bromley Health and Safety Policy
Oven Cleaning Bromley is committed to maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, and welfare for our customers, employees, contractors, and members of the public. This policy sets out our approach to managing risks associated with professional oven and appliance cleaning services in homes and commercial premises.
We aim to prevent accidents, injuries, and ill health by identifying hazards, assessing risks, and implementing effective control measures across all aspects of our work.
Policy Statement and Objectives
Our objective is to provide a safe, clean, and healthy working environment wherever we operate. We comply with all relevant UK health and safety legislation and approved codes of practice, and we review this policy on a regular basis to ensure it remains current and effective.
To achieve our objectives we will:
Identify hazards and assess risks before and during each job
Implement safe systems of work and follow manufacturer guidance for products and equipment
Provide appropriate training, supervision, and information to employees
Supply and enforce the use of suitable personal protective equipment
Minimise risks to customers, their property, and any third parties
Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to prevent reoccurrence
Continually improve our health and safety performance
Responsibilities
The overall responsibility for health and safety at Oven Cleaning Bromley rests with the company management. Management is responsible for ensuring that this policy is implemented and that adequate resources are made available to maintain safe working conditions.
Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for day-to-day implementation of safe working procedures, checking that staff follow training and guidance, and reporting any issues or concerns promptly.
All employees and contractors have a duty to:
Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions
Follow company instructions, safe systems of work, and training provided
Use cleaning products, tools, and equipment only as instructed
Wear and maintain personal protective equipment issued to them
Report accidents, incidents, near misses, hazards, and faulty equipment without delay
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
Before starting work, our operatives are required to assess the immediate environment and identify potential hazards such as hot surfaces, sharp edges, confined spaces, trip hazards, or the presence of children and pets. Work will only proceed when it is safe to do so and appropriate controls are in place.
Our safe working practices include:
Checking electrical appliances are switched off and cool enough to work on where practical
Using isolation and lock-off procedures where required
Avoiding overreaching, unsafe ladders, or standing on unstable surfaces
Maintaining clear walkways and work areas free from trailing leads and spillages
Ensuring good ventilation when using cleaning products
Following manufacturer instructions for ovens, hobs, extractors, and associated equipment
Chemicals and COSHH
Oven Cleaning Bromley uses professional-grade cleaning products that can include degreasers and specialist oven cleaning solutions. These substances are selected, stored, transported, and used in accordance with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health regulations.
For all hazardous substances used, we maintain safety data sheets and carry out COSHH assessments. These assessments identify potential risks and the control measures required to protect staff, customers, and the environment.
Control measures include:
Using only approved and labelled containers
Keeping chemicals out of reach of children and pets at all times
Using minimum effective quantities to complete the work
Avoiding spraying near food, crockery, or open flames
Ensuring appropriate ventilation when products are in use
Providing and enforcing the use of resistant gloves and eye protection where required
Personal Protective Equipment
Personal protective equipment, or PPE, is provided to all operatives in line with the risks identified in our assessments. This may include, but is not limited to:
Protective gloves resistant to cleaning chemicals
Aprons or overalls to prevent contamination of clothing
Eye protection when handling or decanting products
Protective footwear with suitable grip and closed toes
Employees are required to use PPE correctly, check it before use, and report any defects so that it can be repaired or replaced.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Oven cleaning often involves lifting, carrying, and moving components such as oven doors, racks, trays, and dip tanks. To reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries, our staff receive manual handling guidance covering posture, lifting techniques, load assessment, and the importance of asking for help with heavy or awkward items.
All equipment, including dip tanks, wet and dry vacuum systems, tools, and accessories, is regularly inspected and maintained. Defective equipment is removed from service until it is repaired or replaced.
Housekeeping, Fire Safety, and Environment
We maintain high standards of housekeeping to reduce slip, trip, and fall risks. Operatives are instructed to clean up spillages immediately, manage waste safely, and leave work areas tidy at the end of each job.
When working near gas or electric appliances, we take care not to obstruct vents, ignition points, or safety devices. We do not interfere with gas supplies or undertake any work that should be carried out by a registered gas engineer.
Waste generated during cleaning, including residues from dip tanks and cloths contaminated with chemicals, is handled and disposed of responsibly and in accordance with legal requirements.
Training, Communication, and Review
Every member of staff receives health and safety induction training and job-specific guidance before working unsupervised. Ongoing training is provided to keep skills and knowledge up to date, particularly in relation to new products, equipment, or working methods.
We communicate health and safety information clearly to our teams and encourage open reporting of concerns. Feedback from staff and customers is used to improve our procedures and reduce risks.
This Health and Safety policy is reviewed regularly and whenever significant changes occur in our operations or in relevant legislation. Updated versions are communicated to all employees and are available for customers who wish to understand how we manage health and safety as part of our professional oven cleaning services.
